About the role
PwC are looking to recruit a Resource Management / Strategic Workforce Planning and Deployment Manager to play a key role in our South East Assurance business unit. Our South East business unit operates across a number of offices and this role has responsibility for Reading, Southampton and Gatwick. Reporting directly to a Resource Management Senior Manager, you’ll support the SE’s leadership team and engagement teams to deliver their growth and profitability targets. You’ll play an important role in supporting the implementation and delivery of Resource Management services to make sure operational excellence is delivered and will work with the business and Resource Management function to support the firm’s strategy around the agility and mobility of our people, including Talent Management. Aspects of the role include matching our supply of people to future demand, managing future headcount, managing a team of deployment specialists and managing flows of secondees and recruits in and out of the South East. This role is based in Reading with occasional travel to the other SE offices and to London.

• Support the business by delivering the manpower and resourcing plan by having a deep understanding of the Business Unit growth plans and headcount required to support these • Make sure the business needs are delivered in an efficient manner at all times by optimising the allocation of work and deployment of staff to maximise profitability in conjunction with personal development plans and individual wellbeing • Be the people manager for team members including induction, coaching, career development advice, succession planning and having responsibility for interim and year end performance reviews • Demonstrate good knowledge of the business and be proactive in relation to the supply and demand challenges of the business – i.e. busy periods, recurring business, etc. • Produce accurate and commercially focussed Management Information for your Business Unit / Resource Management function, identifying trends/key risks • Be prepared to challenge the Business Unit protocols if impacting resourcing • Engage with the Industry/Network Relationship Managers (if applicable) to understand their priorities • Manage the team to make sure clients’ needs are delivered in an efficient manner at all times by optimising headcount, manage/oversee joiners, leavers and secondments, increasing utilisation and being aware of the impact on employee engagement • Develop your team to make sure best practices are applied and optimisation of the tools and techniques are used • Support the Senior Resource Manager with recruitment interviews and inducting new staff • Work in close partnership with other key functions – e.g. Finance / Human Capital / Business Development • Proactively advise and guide People Managers as regards to their role and responsibilities in Resource Management processes to enable a good quality interaction with their staff • Engage and promote the use of key resourcing to enable effective resourcing • Be prepared to engage in Resource Management projects aligned to the resourcing vision • Share knowledge / best practice and network with your line of service colleagues and colleagues across the Resource Management function • Demonstrate knowledge of the organisations risk management policies and procedures
Requirements
• Experience of working in a Resource Management / Strategic Workforce Planning / operations / project management / recruitment or similar role, at Manager level or above – ideally within a large professional / corporate organisation • Professional, confident and open minded • Commercial and risk minded with good operational business acumen • Trusted advisor who provides balanced, pragmatic advice around manpower planning and resource management to the business • Logical with strategic and pragmatic analytical skills and attention to detail • Proactive with a positive, flexible and assertive attitude • Able to work with tight deadlines in a fast changing environment • Strong ability to liaise, influence, challenge effectively and build relationships at all levels • Good problem solver and decision maker • Effective team player with an ability to develop personal networks through strong interpersonal skills • Excellent verbal and written communication skills • Excellent IT skills – e.g. Microsoft Office (particularly Excel), manpower planning systems (e.g. Retain) • Excellent project management and organisational skills • Experience of conflict resolution, with the ability to manage complex conflicts between numerous parties
