c.£60,000 pa plus benefits –
Over 4 million members; more than 350 places and properties; with up to 7,000 staff and 60,000 volunteers. We protect and care for some of the most important places and spaces in England, Wales and Northern Ireland. We are now seeking to appoint a Head of People Services, with excellent HR knowledge, who will take ownership for the delivery of exceptional people services through the strong leadership of 30+ people.
A pragmatist, able to integrate people services and strategy with the organisational agenda, this is an outstanding opportunity to run the People “engine room” of the Trust. It includes Resourcing, HR case work and advice, administration and support, and not forgetting the Trusts two payrolls.
About the role
You’ll develop, lead and motivate a customer focussed central HR team. Based predominantly in Swindon, you’ll ensure our people services proposition is not just delivered, but is continuously refined and evolved to remain relevant to – and indeed anticipate – changing customer needs.
You and your team will proactively look to make a difference to our places, properties and central offices. As well as being a critical part of the People leadership team and contributing to organisational wide people strategy, we’ll want you to:

Develop and maintain strong working relationships with senior managers across the organisation to ensure the work of the People Service team is tailored to current and anticipated needs.
Increase the effectiveness of our employment proposition and reputation – both internally and externally – and ensuring great resourcing and selection practice.
Manage a “right first time and on time” administration practice.

Ensure our People Officers provide outstanding support and development to our line managers across the organisation.
Maintain and improve our communication channels with business heads and leaders.
Deliver payrolls to our 11,000-strong workforce, including our huge seasonal workforce.
Lead the final stage of our transformational change in how our HR Oracle systems are configured and delivered to the business.
Create a suite of analytical and insightful MI to understand people performance and opportunities – and business insight – for example around resourcing structures and costs.

About you
You’ve done something similar before. We’re happy to consider interest from HR Business Partners and HR people who’ve headed a Centre of Excellence. But we really want someone who’s either run a sizeable people service centre before, or has had some accountability for this within a wider role
An experienced and successful leader who can translate HR strategy into practical value, you’ll add services that make a difference to customers. You’ll combine outstanding communication and influencing skills. You’ll have the emotional intelligence to navigate your way around a complex and multi-layered organisation with a vast number of competing stakeholder demands. You’ll need the intellect to dip in and out of detail where required whilst maintaining focus on your overall plan for the centre.
